Stained Glass

Last updated November 25, 2005.

I decided to take a Stained Glass class last year when I saw an ad for it.    I've always been afraid of glass - ever since I cut my index finger when a Coke bottle shattered in my hand.    I figured this would cure that...

Stained Glass Pattern

The teacher told us for a first project to pick something simple with 20 or less pieces.  I did pick something I thought would be simple when looking at my book of lattice designs...  The pattern is the same size as the original drawing.  The finished piece is 3' diameter and weighs close to 10 pounds.

Round Stained Glass Window

By the time I had finished altering this piece to work as a stained glass window, I had close to two hundred pieces.  It's almost done in this picture.  The thin lines are brown, with emerald green and carnelian red pieces.  The piece is upside down in the picture.  I just have to polish and seal the solder lines, and add a chain to hang it.  I will take a picture when the sun is shining through it.

This is my second pattern I chose to do.  Thank goodness for Kinkos - they helped enlarge this some 300%.  The finished piece with some doubling of the pattern will end up to be almost 5' long.

Rectangular Stained Glass Window

This is my second attempt at this pattern.  The first version is about 30" long and in blue and yellow.  This second iteration is in aqua, blue, pink, and clear glass.  Using lead channels to set the glass certainly adds appeal to this project.

I'd love to hear your comments - drop me a note.
